Shaw Industries Group Inc. said it plans to expand its manufacturing operations in Calhoun, Ga., a move set to create up to 200 new jobs. Plans include enlarging and augmenting its carpet division operations to increase Shaw’s capacity to process filament yarn for residential carpet products. As part of the expansion, Shaw said it will recommission an idle facility in Calhoun and outfit it with new equipment and infrastructure.

"Shaw is committed to investing for the future... The reopening of this facility is an example of that commitment and another step in giving Shaw the best competitive advantage and position for the long term,: said Bill Barron, Shaw's vp manufacturing.

"We appreciate the investment and the large number of jobs that will be created in our community," added Larry Roye, chairman, Development Authority of Gordon County. "The team effort put together by our local representatives, the State of Georgia and Shaw Industries has made this project possible."

“It’s great news for Georgia that one of our longtime manufacturers is planning for future growth in the state,” noted Governor Sonny Perdue. “It’s a testament to the strength our workforce and infrastructure that, even during this economic downturn, Shaw still finds Georgia the best place to invest in its future.”

Shaw expects the expansion to be completed by mid-2010.
