Shaw Industries’ Anso nylon has earned Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) third-party certification for 25 percent post-consumer recycled content. SCS is a global leader in independent certification of environmental, sustainability and green products. Anso nylon is Shaw’s premium carpet and rug fiber brand.

“Shaw is offering a unique product feature and advantage for our customers by certifying its post-consumer recycled content at a 25 percent level in our Anso nylon,” said Rick Ramirez, Shaw’s vp sustainability. “This step forward further demonstrates our commitment to the cradle to cradle philosophy and credible third-party verification of our products’ sustainability and environmental attributes.”

While the SCS certification was recently achieved, Anso nylon products have contained post-consumer recycled content since June 2007, according to Shaw. Anso nylon is also cradle-to-cradle recyclable through the company’s Evergreen Nylon Recycling facility in Augusta, Ga. Anso nylon recently received Cradle to Cradle Silver certification from McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC). The ingredient materials in certified Cradle to Cradle products must also be assessed for human health and environmental safety, according to a rigorous protocol.

MBDC’S William McDonough, who also co-authored Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things, noted, “Shaw’s Cradle to Cradle carpet and rugs are a signal of the next industrial revolution. These carpets and rugs will allow us to eliminate the concept of waste by recycling synthetic materials in continuous flows that have been deeply assessed for safety and returned to manufacturing again and again.”
