Shaw Hospitality Group and La Quinta Inns & Suites partnered earlier this year to reclaim more than 30 tons of carpet during the renovation of five La Quinta hotels in Texas, South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida. While recarpeting the La Quinta guestrooms, Shaw diverted waste carpet to its Evergreen Nylon Recycling Center in Augusta, Ga.

“Participating in the carpet reclamation program was an easy decision for us,” said Murry Cathlina, La Quinta’s exec. vp, design & construction. “There was no extra cost in purchasing carpet from Shaw Hospitality Group that had recycled content in it, and we [were] able to divert tons of old carpet from landfills without incurring additional expense.”

The renovated guest rooms feature Shaw Hospitality Group carpet made with Eco Solution Q nylon containing 25 percent pre-consumer recycled content and is Cradle to Cradle certified by McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry.
