Mullican Flooring President Neil Poland announces his company’s expansion during a recent press conference at its headquarters.

Mullican Flooring and Universal Fibers have announced investments aimed at expanding their operations and growing their workforces. Mullican, based in Johnson City, Tenn., said it will invest $6 million to add another production line for solid prefinished hardwood flooring to its headquarters. Universal Fibers, based in Washington County, Va., noted it is investing $13 million in an expansion of its headquarters that will create 84 jobs.

“This not only represents growth in our workforce and production, but it also shows we are providing a stable work environment for our 135 employees in Johnson City,” said Mullican president Neil Poland. Mullican noted it will kick off its 25th anniversary this year by adding 25 new jobs in the first quarter. An additional 50 jobs will be created over the next two years.

Marc Ammen, Universal Fibers ceo, said he was excited about the expansion of his company’s headquarters. “Because our operations here in Washington County, Va., is the location of our branded EarthSmart Technology initiative, this location was our first choice for this exciting expansion,” he noted. EarthSmart Technology includes green technology in the company’s fiber as well as a sustainable approach to manufacturing, and facility conservation efforts.
