Top winners named in Ceramic Tiles of Italy contest
Confindustria Ceramica and the Italian Trade Commission have announced
the winners of its 15th annual Ceramic Tiles of Italy Design
Competition. Top awards went to BKA Architects for an installation at
Samsonite's corporate headquarters, Richard Fleischman + Partners
Architects for their work at a job center in Cleveland, and Division1
Architects and Koji Tsutsui for residential projects. |
Calif.-based contractor Schuler wins $30K in USG sweepstakes
Bryan Schuler, a resident of La Mesa, Calif., and a contractor for ACSC Corp., recently took home $30,000 as the winner of USG Corp.'s Floor It Sweepstakes. From Nov. 1, 2007 through March 31, 2008, USG held the contest for commercial tile and flooring contractors across the United States. Participants entered online for a chance to win a Roush Stage 3 Ford F-150 Quad Cab, valued at $58,110, or a $30,000 cash prize. Schuler was chosen from a random drawing as the sweepstakes winner. |
Laticrete donates products to Disabled Veterans Camp in Minnesota
Laticrete recently donated LATAPOXY 310 Rapid Stone Adhesive and the LATAPOXY 310 Cordless Mixer for a new 2,400 sq. ft. open air stone pavilion at the Disabled Veterans Camp in Marine on St. Croix, Minn. The Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local Union 1 of Minnesota/North Dakota volunteered their services and installed 18 columns with stone veneers and caps using the Laticrete products. |

Laticrete has expanded its sales team. John "Jay" Owens
has been appointed national accounts manager for Daltile. He will
oversee the Laticrete partnership with Daltile on a national level.
Additionally, Robert Smith has been named regional
sales manager for North Carolina. He will also serve parts of
Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama. |
U.S. Mix to expand Sakrete product reach
Denver-based U.S. Mix Co. has expanded its agreement with Sakrete in the Western U.S. The company will now produce and promote Sakrete products in Colorado as well as parts of Wyoming, South Dakota and Nebraska. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. |
The green miles: BPS creates long 'green' carpet for All-Star Game
Bentley Prince Street created a 95,000 sq. ft. red carpet that stretched 18 blocks across Manhattan's Sixth Ave. for the recent Major League Baseball All-Star Game. According to Anthony Minite, president of BPS, the carpet was not only one of the longest -- it was also one of the greenest. “We’re excited to have the opportunity to create a first-of-its-kind two mile long ‘green’ carpet, made with 100% recycled fiber and 100% renewable electrical energy. None of this carpet will ever wind up in a landfill," he said. "After the event, all 45,000 pounds of carpet will be recycled into new carpet through our ReEntry 2.0 reclamation program.” Bentley Prince Street’s carpet was part of a series of initiatives that helped make the 2008 MLB All-Star Game "the greenest event in MLB’s history," the MLB said. |
 | Conestoga honored as North American distributor of the year for Italian tile

The award was presented to the Hanover, Pa.-based distributor during a ceremony at the Hard Rock Live in Orlando, Fla. at Coverings 2008. According to the Italian tile trade group, Conestoga was recognized for its "highly successful activity in distributing Italian ceramic tiles in the U.S."

 | Beaulieu staffers trained for women-friendly 'Bliss' brand
Patricia Flavin, Beaulieu's sr. vp marketing for marketing, speaks to sales staff, call center operators and other Beaulieu staffers about the company's recently launched Bliss carpet brand. Bliss by Beaulieu is residential carpet "designed by women for women," according to the company. Flavin noted that the training aimed to update staffers "on the Bliss promise and how that translates to enhanced service for dealers and their customers." More than 4,300 Bliss dislays have been shipped to dealers across the country so far, she added.

Four contractors join NTCA's 'Five Star' program
The National Tile Contractors Association has welcomed its first four contractors into the trade group's Five Star Program. Designed to recognize those committed to enhancing training, service, quality, job performance and safety, the four contractors will receive a logo for their letterhead, a marketing piece, and special inclusion in the NTCA online member locator.

Congoleum to raise prices 3 to 6 percent
In a recent letter to distributors, Dennis Jarosz, sr. vp sales and marketing for Congoleum, said the company would raise prices 3 to 6 percent on its products to help offset the escalating cost of raw materials. Congoleum is one of a number of resilient makers in the past several weeks that have announced price hikes.
