LANCASTER, Pa. -- Armstrong Holdings Inc. has appointed M. Edward Sellers to its board of directors. Sellers, 56, has served as president and CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina since 1992 and as chairman, president and CEO since February 2001.

"We are happy to have Ed, with his experience as leader of a business in a changing regulatory environment, join our board," said chairman and CEO Michael D. Lockhart. "As part of the board, he will be instrumental in guiding Armstrong through the many challenges it faces in the current economy."

Sellers has worked with Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina since 1987, responsible for the general management of the various businesses of the company, including health insurance, administrative services contracting, Medicare intermediary functions and Department of Defense TRICARE intermediary functions, among others.

He served as senior vice president in Blue Cross Blue Shield's Chicago office from 1978-1987, responsible for a division with strategic management, marketing, actuarial, and operational support to Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans.

In addition to serving on the Armstrong Holdings board, Sellers is chairman of the board of the South Carolina State Chamber of Commerce, and chairman of the board of Columbia College, in Columbia, S.C. He also serves on various corporate boards.
