 | Mannington wins five Styling Excellence awards
Mannington Mills was recognized with five first place awards in this year’s National Floor Trends Styling Excellence contest – the most of any company this year. In April, NFT spoke briefly with Mannington about its award-winning residential products, including Antiquity ceramic, Corsica LVT and Urbanite resilient flooring. This month, NFT interviewed the commercial division executives to discuss the Adorn commercial carpet collection and Edge rubber wall base.

Lab study: Beaulieu’s Magic Fresh reduces pet urine odor
An independent laboratory test done by Centaur Technologies in Calhoun, Ga., has found that carpet treated with Beaulieu’s Magic Fresh “sharply and rapidly” decreases pet urine odor. Carpet samples treated with Magic Fresh and carpet left untreated were both subjected to equal amounts of pet urine to test the carpets’ odor-control properties. “The results were even more dramatic than we expected,” said Jeff Meadows, exec vp, Beaulieu of America.

Shaw, DAK to create ‘largest recycling plant’
Shaw Industries Group Inc. and DAK Americas LLC have created a joint venture company, Clear Path Recycling LLC, to produce Recycled PET (RPET) from post-consumer PET, which is typically derived from recycled water and soda bottles.

Luigi Di Geso has been named president and CEO of MAPEI Americas, succeeding Rainer Blair. Di Geso has worked for MAPEI for almost 10 years, most recently as general manager for Mapei, Inc. in Canada, where he managed all aspects of the business, including operations and sales functions.

 | FTC honors Mohawk, DuPont; reclassifies PTT fiber as triexta
In a move that marks the first significant change in the residential carpeting classification in 50 years, the Federal Trade Commission has agreed to reclassify Mohawk and DuPont’s PTT fiber, which was formerly recognized as polyester. The new subclass, called triexta, aims to show that PTT and polyester “share little more than a similar chemical structure,” according to Mohawk. Mohawk’s SmartStrand carpets are made from triexta, which is marketed by DuPont under the trademark Sorona.

After 40 years, Orcon to leave flooring industry
Orcon said it will exit the
flooring industry after nearly 40 years and will shut down by May 22. The
company plans to refocus on its aerospace division, which makes reinforced
films, tapes, and insulation components and fabricated systems for the
aerospace, transportation and industrial markets.

MAPEI buys APAC, expands sales force
MAPEI has acquired the assets of
All-Purpose Adhesive Co., based in Dalton, Ga. The teams responsible for the
APAC brand will carry on business with APAC’s current customers, and MAPEI is
currently expanding the APAC sales force, MAPEI said.
