Orcon said it will exit the flooring industry after nearly 40 years and will shut down by May 22. The company plans to refocus on its aerospace division, which makes reinforced films, tapes, and insulation components and fabricated systems for the aerospace, transportation and industrial markets.

Bob Zajdel, Orcon’s vp and gm said, “The Orcon Products Corp. (carpet tapes and tools) will probably be sold to a competitor or another interested company.”

Orcon was founded in 1962 by Hollis Bascom, Orcon’s CEO and president. The Union City, Calif.-based company launched its Carpet Seaming Tape Division in 1970, where it developed its first hot melt carpet seaming tape.
