BR-111 Foundation: Hardwood, and heart, in Brazil

Exotic hardwood flooring maker BR-111 and its supply partners say they are doing their part to expand social programs and brighten the lives of children in Brazil through its BR-111 Foundation. The programs offer education and social services to impoverished children in the areas that typically produce BR-111 flooring. According to BR-111 CEO Daniel Pagano, “We have a social responsibility to give back to the communities that produce our flooring products.”

In partnership with the Rubens Moraes Educational Institute, the BR-111 Foundation operates a school in Piracicaba, Brazil. According to BR-111, the Monte Alegre School provides education, healthcare and social services to approximately 85 children ranging in age from 4 to 6 years old. Children are fed nutritionally balanced meals, work on classroom projects and go on field trips to help them “build self-esteem and promote social growth,” the company noted.

The school is only one way in which the BR-111 Foundation works to help children in the area. In Tiete, Brazil, 70 children between the ages of 6 and 18 are enrolled in the Indusparquet Boys Project, a program that offers a wide range of daily activities to foster friendships and “to prepare the boys for productive working careers.” Indusparquet, which staffs and manages the program, is a longtime supplier for BR-111.

Additionally, supply partner Triangulo helped rebuild the Strike of Light school in Cujubim, a small town in the Northern Amazon region. The company provides continued annual support, and through its efforts has given the area a working school that current enrolls more than 200 students.

Established in 2005, the BR-111 Foundation is a registered 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. A portion of every sale of BR-111 flooring is donated to support the foundation. Tax-deductible donations can also be made directly to the BR-111 Foundation by visiting www.br111foundation.org.
